Image a Week 9_Self Protrait

This is just an experiment with one of the painting apps I was reviewing for my tablet. I would have liked to have taken a better photo of me but I was more interested with checking out the camera than the photo. I wasn’t expecting to be able to create anything good with some of the basic apps I found. This app worked pretty good. I just may buy it.

3D Max

I hadn’t used 3D Max in a while and last weeks image was a quick 3D Max rendering just to shake the rust off. Ironic that this weeks image has loads of rust textures and could alternately be  titled – Rust Room.  After I rendered it in Max I photoshopped some extra details and fine tuned it a bit.

Image a Week 7_Curious Dream of the Lawn Butler

It wasn’t until Sunday (yesterday) that I realized I hadn’t created a digital image for Image a Week.  I didn’t have a lot of time so I cut out the photo of my nephew on a uni-cycle from the Photo A Day album dated 4-20-11 titled “Royal Etiquette of the High Society Lawn Butler “.  I knocked this out real quick in 3D Max.  Now I’ll have to do a real 3D Max rendering for my Image A Week .  Look for that sometime soon.

Rowboat

Rowboat. I just finished this the other day. Oil on board 12″ x 18″
Rowboat
I found this boat when I visited friends in Florida a few years ago. Now was a good time to try painting this since I started changing my painting technique. This new painting style was perfectly suited to rendering the water which I love how it turned out. The photo dosen’t do this justice, you can’t see the depth of the water as you can in the painting itself.

Rhino

My latest scratchboard art. This is 8″x 10 “.

Rhino Scratchboard

This was going to be the first scratch board that I was going to add black  ink  or a little grey ink wash. I decided not to because although adding ink could fix areas a couple of areas I don’t like I’m not sure that it would make it better overall. All in all, I really like how it turned out. I’m going to add color ink the next piece.

Deer

Deer

This was my first attempt at watercolor since high school, that’s a very long time ago. I was never really good at watercolor; I’m much more of an oil painter. I had a 16 x 20 clay board, craft quality cake watercolors and a ‘lets play’ attitude. This was the result. I did add acrylic highlights in the branches as well as the grass in the foreground. This was not the result I was hoping for, I wanted a more “watercolory” look, this looks closer to an oil or acrylic painting.

Week 4_Terry Statue
My first attempt at turning someone into a statue. I like the result, but it’s not quite what I was going for. I’ll have to do another one sometime.

Hawk

Hawk 0

Picture 1 of 11

Hawk 0

I usually don’t see many hawks in my part of South Jersey let alone having one drop down in my backyard.  Yesterday this hawk did just that.  A rarity for sure, and to have one hang around long enough to photograph was my lucky day. Then along comes this squirrel!   I didn’t think this was going to end well for the squirrel.  I don’t know what hawks eat, but either this one was full or doesn’t eat squirrel. Either way I have the feeling I wasn’t the only one lucky that day.
